COMMUNE is a radical Art and Community Festival, fundraising to save Stour Space in Fish Island (Hackney Wick) from imminent closure due to the impact of local regeneration.
Stour Space is one of the first Asset of Community Value buildings in the UK and the last remaining Art and Community space in Fish Island (Hackney Wick), the recent recipient of the Mayor of London’s Creative Enterprise Zone. The closing down of Stour Space could be the final nail in the coffin of the creative community in an area that once housed the highest concentration of artists in Europe.
Stour Space has already raised 30k via local sponsors of a 50k total needed by the end of April, in order to extend their lease up to 2020 and to implement a long-term plan to create a permanent, affordable housing and community Arts space.
