See It From Her+ presents:

The work will be accompanied by the words and voices of those from the project.

FREE and all welcome

What goes on in our immigration system and inside detention is often kept very hidden and those with experience are not always able to speak out. This is an exhibition of photography work by 3 individuals who have all been affected in different ways. The work will be accompanied by the words and voices of those from the project.

Affected by Detention

What goes on in our immigration system and inside detention is often kept very hidden. Those with experience are not always able to speak out. This is an exhibition of photography work by 3 individuals who have all been affected in different ways. The work will be accompanied by the words and voices of the people involved in the project.

In the UK, the Government detains approximately 30,000 people for immigration purposes per year.

It’s not good, you are locked. It’s like jail. There’s barbed wire all around the fences.’

In 2017, 28,244 people left detention. 44% were removed from the UK, which means that 56% of those detained were released back into the community, their detention having served no purpose.

What goes on in our immigration system and inside detention is often kept very hidden and those with experience are not always able to speak out.

‘The big boss from Yarl’s Wood came into my room once when I was there, he had with him 12 officers and told one of the officers to punch me.’

The images being exhibited were made in response to individual experience of immigration and detention. The three artists all had very different approaches to creating their art. This is an invitation to hear from the experts by experience, the people who have been impacted.

About

See It From Her + (SIFH+) is a project that supports women and those who feel oppressed because of their gender identity, to have a voice and be heard through photography and image.

We run photography projects, 1-1 mentoring and exhibitions offering a creative platform for individuals to tell their own stories, share their experiences and express themselves in an accessible and different way. SIFH+ also hosts events, conducts research and facilitates discussion around gender discrimination, sexism and representation.

We are exclusively run by, and support all women (trans, intersex and cis) non-binary, agender and gender variant people.
