MÃE – A Child’s Perspective of Motherhood
Hidden Heroes: A Child’s Perspective of Motherhood – The children of Rocinha capture the Life of a Mother.
ACE is a non-governmental organisation that inspires future generations of changemakers by empowering this one
‘MÃE’ (Mother) an exhibition hosted by ACE features photographs taken by children living in Rocinha, Brazil. The show has previously toured Perpignan, France. In 2019 it will tour Toulouse, Paris and Dublin. The exhibition is coming to London in January and we hope you can join us in order to raise awareness for a commendable cause.
Through the children of Rocinha’s photography, ACE is able to prove that the Favela is not as dark as the media portrays it to be. Those involved are given a platform to share stories about their lives, in particular about their mothers.
When the exhibition comes to London at ACE we aim to present something a little different. Eleven UK artists have been invited to collaborate with these children and have each been given a photograph and a short accompanying statement. It is up to the artist to interpret the image in their own way. The children of Rocinha and the artists of this show may be worlds apart but will be brought together with the universal concept of motherhood.
Both original photographs and created works will be shown from January 18th at Stour Space. (PV STARTS AT 7:00 PM ON JANUARY 18th AND RUNS UNTIL LATE)
The exhibition then runs until the 24th of January.
The artists showing in MÁE are:
Edie Ashley, Rosie Crawley, India Gabb, Luca Longhi, Rosa Luetchford, Jazmyn Maher, James Moyle, Florian Tomasini, Melanie Twigger, Megan Visser, Freya Walker and George Wills.
