We are so excited to announce that Shado will be back at Stour Space for the launch of our second issue, Global Womxnhood.
Shado will be teaming up with The Vavengers to bring you a night music, art, spoken word, comedy, food, drink…and, most importantly, celebration and inclusion.
Female Genital Mutilation has no place in any society and we are coming together on the 12th July to celebrate the launch of our next issue whilst also raising funds through ticket sales and donations to support the work of The Vavengers and stop this abhorrent practice affecting millions of girls and women world wide.
Music and Spoken Word:
Shado is an online and print publication. shado stands for See. Hear. Act. Do. and promotes the engagement between arts, activism and academia in order to amplify the voices of those at the frontline of social, political and cultural change. shado provides a space for the coexistence of people across different disciplines who are all working to spotlight issues faced by those at the margins of global society, in order to change negative perceptions and allow for new narratives to be formed.
The Vavengers (‘Vagina Avengers’) are an organisation started in 2015, made up of people of different ages, cultural backgrounds, genders and nationalities working together and putting on events towards a common goal: To End Female Genital Mutilation. Eighty percent of the proceeds from their events go directly to the charities they work with. Their fundraising is all survivor led, and in 2015 they raised enough money to launch the Uk’s first anti-FGM billboards across London with a helpline for women and girls at risk.
