dj Khalab (Black Acre) –
2016 has been massive for Afrofuturist beat-maker dj Khalab. Having won the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Track Of The Year for his Baba Sissoko release “Tata” we’ve seen him enjoy successful collaborations with CLAP! CLAP! , Owiny Sigoma Band, and Melt Yourself Down. Catch Khalab at this rare London DJ set before he disappears back to his mysterious Italian hideout.
Penya (On The Corner) –
5 piece Afro-Latin electronic outfit, Penya launch their debut EP: “Acelere” featuring remixes by DJ Khalab and Los Angeles producer Jose Marquez.
Magnus P.I (On the corner) – Magnus P.I’s debut cassette release won critical acclaim from Tom Ravenscroft on BBC 6 music and Nick Luscombe on Radio 3. His “Penya Investigations” led to the bands collaboration with DJ Khalab, featured on their “Acelere” EP.
Bustin’ Loose – After a hugely successful first night with London Afrobeat Collective + Afriquoi back in May, Bustin’ Loose returns to Hackney’s Stour for another showdown of discotheque, funk struts and afro groove.
Pete OTC – On The Corner boss Pete Buckenham has received much public acclaim from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Laurent Garnier, Tom Ravenscroft, and Dom Servini for his label’s 12″ releases. Think deep jazz fused with an audacious flux of African groove, hypnotic brass and rhythmic breaks. OTC are certainly one to watch; tipped by many as one of the most progressive record labels in the UK.
